Life in Africa Blog Post Credit: Jueun Côte d’Ivoire Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons Côte d’Ivoire (coat-deh-vwah) also known as Ivory Coast is a country in the western part of Africa, as shown in red on the map above. It is a very nice country with a lot of attractions, like relaxing in the beach, marvel at the lights of Abidjan, watch people dance with stilts on, walk to a waterfall, and taking a hike. They have a lot of natural resources, but according to Africaw they are still one of the poorest country with a 50% of the population under the poverty line.
Only 38.6% of women in Ivory Coast that are above the age of 15 can read or write. About 500,000 people are living with HIV or AIDS with about 400,000 deaths recorded each year. It also remains the malaria-killing zone in Africa. The malaria continues to kill people there today. Typhoid fever, bacterial and protozoal diarrhea and other diseases or severe sicknesses threaten to kill people in Ivory Coast today. Ivory Coast forest’s was West Africa’s largest forest. But due to deforestation and overpopulation, most of the trees have been destroyed. Also, most water in Ivory Coast is polluted because of sewage, agricultural and industrial effluents. Corruption levels remain high in Côte d’Ivoire. Poor governance, incompetent leadership, mismanagement of funds and much more continue to destroy Côte d’Ivoire. Despite all the problems in Ivory Coast, I still believe and hope that not all places in Côte d’Ivoire are like this. I hope that there are still places in Côte d’Ivoire where tourist can relax and have fun. Why do I hope for this? Because I like Côte d’Ivoire, why do you think I chose this country? What do you think? Do you know anyway on how to help Ivory Coast? Tell me in the comments below! Resource Credit: Africaw

I think you chose Ivory Coast because it's a wonderful country. I've passed by it because I had to go to a sports tournament for basketball. In my opinion when I saw the view of the country it looked wonderful. However, I've never actually spent quality time in the country. I think one way to help the Ivory Coast is by taking care of the pollution. Here in Senegal we also have a lot of pollution and I think it's a huge problem that nobody is worrying about, I wonder if it's the same in Ivory Coast. Do they have any plans to solve the pollution problem/
